REVIEW of:
Blue Green Years

Adolescense is certainly an important part of every girls' life, and that is no different for one Kawai Yuko, who at the beginning of the series is entering her first year of Junior High with her best friend, Takahata Takako, aka Taka-chan. Yuuko is a sweet, talented at writing, yet still an insecure girl. Also, she has difficulty telling the truth if it could hurt a person. This, of course, infuriates Taka-chan, a brutally honest if not a bit rude girl who can't understand Yuuko's actions. Yet, despite everything, Taka-chan often seems to understand Yuuko even more than Yuuko understands herself, and she is quite often the one that Yuuko turns to for support. - Sakura Josei |

| Comments | Wow, what can I say? Personally, I simply loved Blue Green Years, as you can see by the score I gave it. Although the art has a rather simplistic nature to it, I thought it very appropriate for the series and enjoyed it very much. The characters are somewhat cliche, though given the realistic nature of the series that, too, is quite appropriate. By far the aspect that impressed me most was the plot and storyline, namely the incredibly realistic scenarios that Yuko-chan endures. The more I episodes I watched, the more emotionally attached I became to each of the characters, but especially Yuko. The feelings portrayed are very real, and the romance has a uniquely "middle school" flavor. Indeed, the entire series deals with everyday problems, everyday situations, and everyday emotions. There are so many "little things" that happen on an ordinary day, and Blue Green Years does an excellent job of not only including those things, but making them special to the characters AND the viewer. Next to Child's Toy, this has to be one of the best anime TV series I've seen. Well worth watching! | Blue-Green
Years is certainly a story that's grown on me. In fact, when I first watched
it, I didn't think it was anything special. The animation was fluid, yet
not striking, and the fact that it had been taped from a tape source certain
didn't help any.
Then I rewatched it several times, and the more I watched it, the more stunned I was at how incredibly moving it was. Not because there were several super-dramatic scenes, but because it was realistic. Whilst watching it, I could remember my middle school years--I didn't go to a Junior High--and the pain and embarassment and worry I suffered. Often, what the characters went through are what I went through, the memories being enough to make me cry. If you're looking for a super-dramatic and/or action packed anime, don't look here. If, however, you're looking for a realistic anime that can both make you laugh and cry, then by all means, try it. |
Let's see, I wasn't thrilled with the character design, luckily the story line more than makes up for it. The puns are great, and it does have it's silly moments. I love Taka, she reminds me of Ami from DNA^2 *wow, it's like Deja Vu!! She act's like her, looks like her...maybe it really is Ami?!?!* It's definately worth watching, especially if you like Hana Yori Dango, or Marmalade Boy. The best part is that while there is some crying, there is no hysteric's. Hmmmm...I also wish that Yu wasn't so weak willed. Other than that, I loved it! The plot is fairly simple, but really well handled, and realistic, as were the characters reactions to each other. The episodes don't drag, or go too fast. The music was okay, and the color scheme better than most, but the character development was the best. Especially Taka, I felt so sorry for her, mainly because Yu was not always a very good friend. Overall I loved it! |
