REVIEW of:
 Slayers Great

Slayers Great       The city of Stoner is known across the land as *the* place to go when you're looking for stone Golems, but it's ruled over by two Lords who are constantly trying to usurp control of the city from their rival lord. Too bad the city, and the Lords, are in for a surprise when the infamous Lina Inverse and her sidekick of the less-is-more philosophy of armor, Naga the White Serpent, decide to come a'calling! Lina and Naga are in for some suprises of their own, though, when they're drawn into a whirlwind of devious plots and one really dysfunctional family.    - Shinma

Comments What can I say, it's Slayers all the way! =) There's just no helping it -- everytime Lina teams up with that wacky Naga, I end up rolling on the floor in fits of laughter. The one part that particularly cracked me up was.. well, I don't want to give it away, but just slip you a teaser, I'll give you one word: "chibi". Find out what I mean for yourself! Anyways (collecting my sanity again), although I found Slayers Great wonderfully funny, I must say that I was rather disappointed overall. Character development is all but missing, though that is to be expected from a movie, since the characters are already pretty well developed in the TV series. But (for once), this Slayers plot just didn't strike me like the other Slayers movies did. Of course I enjoyed Lina and Naga's perpetual bickering -- who wouldn't? But to me, there was just that unexplainable something missing from this movie. It seemed as if the writers concentrated more on the slapstick and humor than they did on an interesting, enjoyable, UNPREDICTABLE plot. Still, if you're a Slayers fan, there's no question about it -- watch this movie! Slayers Great makes another solid installment into the Slayers universe. Although not near as good as the first movie, it does bring more of a sitcom feel to the Movies and Original Video Animations. The reason I scored the art and style so high is because this was a motion picture, not just your average OVA or TV episode. It was beautifully drawn and I'm also biased to the style in which the Slayer-verse is drawn. The plot was a little slim, and there wasn't anything special about it. You could almost pass it off as just another day in Lina's life. It's easy to interpret for someone just getting into the series, tho, or a hardened Vetran. Look forward to the awesome musical stylings of the great Hayashibara Megumi as well. Those darn tunes will get stuck in your head and you'll be walking down the street singing the words to yourself, and recieving odd looks. The third movie in the Slayers universe is very entertaining. However, the story is very, very absurd. The art is up to par with the other Slayers movies with the exception of one part where Lina and Naga follow a girl they rescued, it just really got to me how they walked. Grrr. :) Being a movie with well set characters, the characters just appeared to be flat, and typical. The storyline is very simple, not too original and a little disappointing. I gave the movie a Clarity rating of 6 because it was very easy to understand what was going on. However, making up for some of the problems in this movie is the humor. As other Slayer movies, Slayers Great has a lot of gags and silly situations. Slayers fans should get movie but if you are new or just want a video, I recommend the shows or Slayers Return.
