REVIEW of:
 Macross: Do You Remember Love

Macross: Do You Remember Love       Set in 2009 on the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Macross: Do You Remember Love brings us the story of love and heartbreak during a time of war. Hikaru Ichijyo is a young, unexperienced pilot who is totally infatuated with the singer Lynn Minmay (or Minmei). Unfortunately, he must be torn from her because of his duties during the war between the humans on the battleship and the Zentradi aliens. To add to his female troubles, Hikaru is under the command of the strict, demanding bridge officer Misa Hayase. Based on the 1982 series Macross, this movie summarizes the series into a sequence of events made for a motion picture audience. However, some information may be confusing for the first time watcher and may be more enjoyable to those who have watched the original series.    - Hanako

Comments This movie was one of the few mecha plots that I actually enjoy. Unlike other series of this genre such as Gundam, Voltron, etc., this anime had something most people could enjoy: romance, action, drama, a little comedy, and wonderful songs. The artistry is really good, especially considering that it was made in 1984. The machines and the people were all drawn beautifully and realistically (a dramatic improvement compared to the old 1982 T.V. version). However, there are some things in this movie that are not clarified at all. In fact, it was made for those who had already watched the Macross series. There is very little character development, and that might be frustrating for those who want to know more about a certain character. For those Macross veterans, this movie is the perfect supplement after watching the series. Macross fans will enjoy seeing past characters and familiar scenes, as well as various songs by Lynn Minmei. This is a good movie... but only if you have a grasp of the series.
