REVIEW of:
Magic Knights Rayearth
(Season One)
![]() |
Cefiro, a land
where will-power is the greatest weapon, and friendship your greatest ally.
Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu (three earth girls) suddenly find themselves transported
to this mysterious land during a school field-trip to Tokyo Tower. They
have never met each other, are unsure of what happened, and how they got
to wherever it is they are is completely beyond them. What they don't know,
yet, is that they are the legendary Magic Knights who will save Cefiro
from the evil wizard/priest Zagato. While wandering around, they run into the good priest, Clef, who tells them of the legend and of their destiny. Although taken back at first, they soon band together when Zagato's evil followers turn Clef to stone. They realize they must work together, fight together, and trust each other not just to save Cefiro, but to survive. The rest of season one (20 half-hour episodes) has the girls up against numerous of Zagato's followers, and finally - at the end - the big showdown between the Magic Knights and Zagato himself. - Kiwi |

| Comments | Set in a land of magic, mystery, sword-fighting, and wizardry, Magic Knights Rayearth brings fantasy to life. Although the series seems somewhat 'shoujo' (for children/small girls, ie Sailor Moon), I still found this series entertaining. I must admit, it is more interesting to watch an episode or two a week rather than all of them at once since the plot of each episode is basically the same: one of Zagato's henchmen try to kill the Magic Knights, the Magic Knights join together to defeat the evil and learn more about themselves in the process. However, the series itself is more detailed than that, and far more interesting. In addition, there was a second season produced, as well as a three-part OVA series. Both of these facts attest to the popularity of MKR. Unless you are really picky about your anime, or just flat out can't STAND anything remotely shoujo, you should enjoy this anime. | ||
