REVIEW of:
 Saber Marionette R

Saber Marionette R  Prepare to be confused!! Now, listen carefully... Saber Marionette R takes place 200 years AFTER Saber Marionette J, but was animated and released 2 years before Saber Marionette J was. Consequently, the animation, storyline, and just about everything else is NOT very continuous. Lime, Cherry, and Bloodberry are still alive and well, their Otome- circuts (virgin circuts) beating strong and fierce. Despite the fact that she (and Cherry and Bloodberry) are supposed to have been around for some 200 years now, ever since Saber J ended, Junior (the male lead in Saber R) says that "Lime was just born" a few months ago. And she sure acts it too. This series has virtually NOTHING AT ALL to do with the Saber J series which came out two years later. Saber R takes place in an almost modern day city called Romana, and is about the heir to Romana's throne, Junior, and his struggles to stop the evil StarFace and his super strong SexaDolls from taking over Romana. The Saber Marionette universe is still pretty much the same... clones, marionettes, etc. For more background info on the Saber Marionette universe, read the review for Saber Marionette J.          - Kiwi

Comments After watching Saber Marionette J first, I was VERY disappointed in Saber Marionette R. The plot and storyline hardly coincide at all between the two, and the characters are quite different in Saber J. Taken apart from Saber J, Saber R is a decent action flick, though the story is predictable and on the whole, pretty much average. For those who have seen Saber Marionette J, don't expect too much from Saber R, it's mostly violence and action, with little character depth and witty dialog. In fact, there's almost no humor at all, and the tone is quite serious throughout the OVA series. For those who haven't seen Saber J, don't feel you need to see Saber J before Saber R... in fact, I suggest you watch R first and then see how much better J was done! =)
